InfoBasis adds test functionality to competency management platform
InfoBasis, the capability management expert, has expanded its competency management platform, InfoBasis ESI v 5.0, by adding question-based testing. Users can now sit a short test of their knowledge and skills, and use the results to verify skills levels selected during self-assessment.
This approach to verifying skills and knowledge assessment has proved effective in use by InfoBasis consulting partners. Now question–based testing aligned to competencies will be available to corporate clients on version 5.0 of the InfoBasis ESI platform.
“Testing lets users check whether their self-assessment matches the understanding of experts in that area,” explains InfoBasis CTO Nicholas Revell. He adds that the new functionality is optional and flexible. “Companies can choose to use questions or not, and users may not necessarily take a test for each competency in their job role. It could be that they only test against mission-critical skills.”
InfoBasis continues to recommend self-assessment, verified by a competent authority, as the most effective way of establishing individuals’ skill levels. “For clients who are looking for rigorous analysis in key areas, though, testing can be valuable,” adds Nicholas. “And with the flexibility of the system, tests can be set for individual skills, for larger knowledge areas, or for the requirements of entire job roles – particularly useful when compliance is an issue.”
“InfoBasis regularly updates its platform in response to client requests,” says InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton. “This is one more area in which we’re happy to add functionality which we know will improve clients’ capability management.”
