InfoBasis signs skills pledge

InfoBasis, the capability management expert, today announced its commitment to the UK government's skills pledge. The skills pledge is a public and voluntary commitment made by employers to train all staff, ensuring they have the skills needed to compete in the global workplace.

The skills pledge is part of the government's drive to ensure that by 2020, the country is in the 'world's premier league for skills', according to the DUIS's recently released document World Class Skills.

In committing to the pledge, InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton noted that there was a danger of the pledge being misinterpreted. "The skills pledge story in the media so far has focused on level 2 qualifications, but it's about more than just that. It's about ensuring that people at all levels of an organisation have the skills necessary for their jobs."

With all InfoBasis staff already at level 2 educationally (equivalent to five good GCSEs or more), and a solid training programme already in place, the software house sees the pledge as a public affirmation underlining the importance of constant investment in skills.

"Our graduate intake spends about one third of its first year in some form of development," notes Ashley, "and training continues thereafter. We are signing the pledge because we want to show our commitment to investment in skills, and to help other employers realise the breadth and importance of the skills pledge."
