Transport for London employs InfoBasis technology to enhance internal capability
Transport for London (TfL) implements the InfoBasis capability management platform, enabling TfL to optimise the process of skills assessment.
TfL has implemented the InfoBasis capability management platform, enabling TfL to optimise the process of skills assessment and development needs identification across their Project and Programme Management (PPM) community. This is part of a wider initiative called Project PYRAMID which aims to enhance TfL’s PPM capability in support of the delivery of its £10 billion, 5 year Investment Programme.
InfoBasis Enterprise Skills Manager™ (InfoBasis ESM) makes it possible for TfL to pin-point any skills gaps across its PPM community while assisting staff to identify suitable development opportunities. These include professionally recognised qualifications, as well as competency-specific training modules.
The decision to adopt InfoBasis ESM came following a competitive tendering process. Project PYRAMID populated InfoBasis ESM with a set of competencies aligned to the Association for Project Management (APM). InfoBasis ESM delivers the competency framework to 1000 people within the PPM Community.
Working in partnership, TfL and InfoBasis conducted a pilot with 100 volunteers whose positive feedback reflected the user-friendly design of InfoBasis ESM, together with its flexibility to act as a useful repository of valuable capability and experience information.
It is envisaged that data collated by InfoBasis ESM will be analysed by managers to assess the relative capabilities of their teams and enable the design of effective learning and development solutions. It is anticipated that individuals will also benefit by gaining an understanding of their relative competency strengths and areas of development. They will be given an indication of the most relevant development activities to help them in their current roles and to plan their future careers.
InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton commented on the implications of the agreement and noted the benefits for all involved. “As part of this initiative, Transport for London demonstrates the commitment of organisations which truly value their workforce. In light of the forthcoming Olympic Games, transport in London is going to be more important than ever, and with InfoBasis ESM, the skills of the employees will need to be used to the maximum effect.”
