BVSC relies on InfoBasis to boost not-for-profit IT management
Charity will use InfoBasis technology to boost IT professionalism among voluntary organisations
The Birmingham Voluntary Sector Centre (BVSC) has chosen to use the technology from skills management expert InfoBasis to improve levels of IT professionalism in the not-for-profit sector within the Midlands.
Under the auspices of Midlands Open Source Technology (MOST), a government-funded initiative set-up to improve the IT infrastructure of the voluntary sector, BVSC will be using InfoBasis Enterprise Skills Management™ (InfoBasis ESM) to conduct skills gap analyses among delegates of its ICT management courses. These courses are aimed at those responsible for IT within voluntary and community organisations (VCOs), and the BVSC will use the analyses to help attendees identify areas for training and map their career paths.
In addition, BVSC will use the technology to analyse the skills of its internal staff and benchmark them against industry standards, such as the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), the standard UK set of definitions of professional IT skills.
“The voluntary sector is often criticised for having a piecemeal approach to people, processes and technology,” said Richard Coubry, ICT training specialist at MOST. “We aim to change that by making sure that voluntary sector IT can compete with the private and public sectors. By using InfoBasis technology, we can give VCOs the visibility of staff and skills to allow them to make the strategic decisions to achieve this.”
“Assessing staff skills is a critical component in order for any organisation to achieve success, irrespective of the sector,” said Ashley Wheaton, InfoBasis CEO. “With the often limited resources available to the voluntary sector, it’s important these organisations are equipped with the tools to ensure staff achieve their full potential.”
