IET chooses InfoBasis to boost benefits for engineers
Technology will be used to promote professional development and continuous assessment
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has unveiled Career Manager, a skills self-assessment tool, using InfoBasis’ Enterprise Skills Infrastructure platform™ (ESI). IET members will be able to track skills and keep CVs up-to-date, evaluating themselves throughout their careers.
The web-based tool will enable individuals to update their progress online, and identify areas of development needed to become a Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or an Engineering Technician. Career Manager will also allow the IET to increase the efficiency of its registration process.
“A quick and easy deployment of the technology was key in choosing InfoBasis,” said Sandra Godman, professional development manager at the IET. “Its association with the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), and vast experience in implementing such systems were also deciding factors.”
She continued: “We want to encourage engineers to follow an ethos of continuous development. Career Manager will make the route to professional recognition easier for engineers, and allow them to clearly see their whole career progression.”
“The IET is dedicated to giving the most to its members,” said Ashley Wheaton, CEO of InfoBasis. “Our technology will empower engineers with the ability to map their skills and identify areas for development. Not only will this drive them to reach their full potential, it will improve levels of professionalism across the entire industry.”
