Shaw Trust invests in InfoBasis for skills management

National charity embraces skills optimisation

Shaw Trust, the UK’s largest provider of employment services for disabled and disadvantaged people, has chosen InfoBasis’ skills management software to measure and analyse the skills of its entire 1,200 workforce.

Shaw Trust, which provides training and work opportunities for people who are disadvantaged in the labour market due to disability, ill health or other social circumstances, aims to develop and allocate skilled individuals within the organisation more efficiently.

The initiative was originally intended to assess the skills of 170 managers, but after recognising the benefits of a full skills audit, it was agreed that it would eventually be extended to cover the entire company. Employees will be able to analyse skills based on the Shaw Trust core competencies as well as the Oxford Behavioural Framework.

The skills audit will also complement Shaw Trust’s annual appraisal system, giving managers and employees a transparent view of the individual’s progress across various skill sets specific to Shaw Trust, including decision-making and influence.

“We chose to implement skills management because as an organisation we wanted to be smarter and more strategic in the way we deploy our people, and make sure that we are using the best people for each task or project,” said Juliet Adams, national training manager at Shaw Trust. “Originally we thought we would have to use two systems; one for skills management, and another for managerial succession planning. It turns out we can do both with the InfoBasis ESI platform - saving us money, and making our management reporting more insightful.”

“All organisations can benefit from deploying their resources more efficiently and effectively, but it’s impossible to do unless you know what you’ve got,” said Ashley Wheaton, CEO of InfoBasis. “Shaw Trust is the first organisation to adopt our charity pricing model.”
