InfoBasis skills service backs Watmore and Gershon
Skills management experts enable understanding of skills for more effective IT
Skills management expert InfoBasis is launching a free service to aid the public sector in meeting the Gershon review’s ambitious efficiency targets. SFIA3Browse helps users understand the skills needed by IT professionals in the drive for public sector efficiency.
“Much of the £20 billion in efficiency savings projected by Sir Peter Gershon flows from better use of IT in back office functions,” said InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton, “But as the recent Work Foundation report ‘How ICT?’ points out, inefficient exploitation of IT threatens the entire Gershon agenda.”
The Work Foundation report – based on a survey of 1,500 public sector staff – emphasises the need for well developed IT and associated skills, especially in the areas of project and change management. These skills are part of version three of SFIA, the Skills Framework for the Information Age, to be launched on November 10th at the Department of Trade and Industry. SFIA is the basis of the Government’s IT competency framework, and last week Government CIO Ian Watmore said that he wanted SFIA to become the de facto standard for IT skills.
“The free SFIA3Browse service will enable users to examine the framework in detail, and understand how better focus on skills management can help them achieve the required business results,” said Wheaton. “InfoBasis views the development and management of skills as crucial to the success of IT in the public sector. That’s why, as the only SFIA Foundation-accredited software provider, we are making this service available free of charge.” For more on SFIA:
