British Army purchases InfoBasis Enterprise Skills Infrastructure™
Successful trial signals investment in InfoBasis ESI as part of Skills Framework for the Information Age
London, UK 21st June, 2004 – InfoBasis Limited, a leading provider of skills management business solutions, today announced that following a successful assessment period, the British Army is now purchasing over a thousand licences of its Enterprise Skills Infrastructure (ESI). The outstanding success of the initial trial influenced the British Army’s decision to undergo a full deployment of InfoBasis ESI, which plays a major part in its skills audit solution based on the UK’s Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA).
In June 2003, the British Army made InfoBasis ESI v. 3.6 available over RLI, its internal network. Its benefits were assessed as part of the Army’s growing commitment to SFIA, the UK’s skills dictionary for ICT professionals. The Defence training review of March 2001 mandated the comprehensive use of SFIA throughout the MOD, and so the Army’s decision to invest in a full deployment of InfoBasis ESI marks an important stage in its commitment to the framework.
“We were extremely impressed with the way the InfoBasis solution performed during our comprehensive trial period, and therefore we decided that the investment in InfoBasis ESI was necessary for us to continue the development of our skills audit solution,” says Major Colin Code of DCBM(A)’s Human Resources cell. “Because of InfoBasis ESI we have been able to assess the training gap between a person and their post and set personal development plans that work both for the individual and for the Army.”
The eventual aim, according to Major Code, will be to deploy a tool that is the basis for an accredited Continued Professional Development (CPD) scheme to furnish an electronic portfolio of skills which can be ‘carried’ by the user anywhere within the Army. “This should demonstrate out commitment to our staff and promote retention,” he added.
InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton said, “Our powerful, proven application has enabled users at the MOD to access SFIA in an easily intelligible way. We are pleased that our relationship with the British Army is moving forward onto this new footing as we go into the next implementation phase.”
The purchase of the licences, by the British Army, significantly extends the existing InfoBasis ESI user group. During the deployment period the British Army will be engaging in InfoBasis’ consulting services to implement the full solution.
